You are really becoming short-term residents, but also tourists on the weekends/evenings or other times. However, I believe this advice breaks down to one degree or another with your situation since you are staying two weeks and at least part of that time you'll be living a somewhat normal life and working (for your husband, anyway). The reasoning is that if you're trying to see a new city with very limited time as a tourist you should maximize any wasted travel time and maximize the excitement and liveliness you'll experience. The usual advice to *regular tourists* staying 2,3 or 4 days from regular posters is to stay around Union Square, Embarcadero or Fisherman's Wharf (in that general order of preference). I would not attempt driving and parking at work if that is where he is working and you stay somewhere in the city. If he works out of the financial district then you have many options for where to stay since that is a very central area in San Francisco and a great many public transit lines go right by the Financial District on Market Street. I need to read up and see if there are things for me to do in Palo Alto while my husband is at work and if public transportation is convenient. My husband will take the car in the day so i thought that being in SF, I'll hv plenty of things to do and getting around via public transport will be easy. We will have a car so I guess if we stay in SF we will have to factor in parking charges. This is her first camp experience and we wanted to be somewhat closeby - just in case. Just to go visit my daughter - if she gets homesick. It'll be abt $3000+ for the entire 16 days. I did call like a Marriott Suites out there near Stanford. When I called some of these places they were mentioning it but I had no idea where it went. Thank you too for explaning the Caltrain thing. My husband and I are working on this this wkend and will take all your advice into consideration. Thank you SO much for your helpful reply and words of wisdom. Find a few places and do post the exact addy here and regulars can help you with the neighborhood Edited: 11 years ago Any place close to the MUNI streetcars N Judah or the K or T line outbound would be ok. around ATT park would be most convenient to get onto 280 but you may be in for a sticker shockĪlso have a look at extended stay hotels as an option in the Peninsula though I would prefer you stay in the city and you can use public transport to get to the Caltrain SF station. Have a look at and and then see what you can find for a month based on your budget. Parking is expensive in the city with out a permit and it is crazy in Stanford as you have to get permit or pay and park. You can take Caltrain from SF to PA and there is a free shuttle into Stanford. have a look at and you can see the route. The two freeways going to PA are 101 and 280. Prices in SF are not going to be cheaper - This is the Bay Area unfortunately. But it all depends on what you want to do and how often you need to get to PA. Sure SF is an amazing city to stay, and work out of compared to a suburb such as Palo Alto.
